Concrete mix design
Mix design sets the proportions of cement, aggregates, water, supplementary cementitious materials and admixtures. The starting point is the specified performance, not a generic recipe, and the end point is a mixture production can repeat.
Workability (slump, or slump flow, and how long it lasts), water–cement ratio, mortar content and cement–admixture compatibility all sit in the same calculation. A dirty or variable aggregate changes the mix, so proportioning is done with the lot on hand, not with a sand that merely looks similar.
